Before accepting an expert project

Before accepting an engagement, confirm the question, deliverable, workload, compensation, permitted use and any conflicts. Record the agreed terms before work …

Subject and relevant experience

Assess whether you can contribute relevant evidence or experience. Request enough context to understand the question and intended audience. A subject close to your usual field may still fall outside your expertise.

Deliverable and timetable

Confirm whether the work involves a call, brief, evidence review, or another output. Agree preparation time, deadlines, revisions, meetings, and dependencies on materials the client will provide.

Fee and payment terms

Record the fee, currency, included work, invoicing requirements, payment timing, and treatment of extra work. Clarify cancellation and rescheduling terms. A network application alone settles none of these points.

Conflicts, confidentiality, and attribution

Check current and former role obligations. Establish whether recording, quotation, publication, or disclosure of your identity is proposed. Resolve uncertainty before participating; initial approval would not replace a project-specific check.

Accepting or declining

You should be able to accept, ask for changes, or decline. Keep a record of the agreed scope. Policy Expert Network does not currently list open engagements, and this checklist is not a project offer.
